National Park
The Aigüestortes Estany Sant Maurici National Park is famous for its great diversity of wild flora and fauna, and in particular the water of its rivers, streams and over 200 lakes.
The Aigüestortes Estany Sant Maurici National Park contains several Pyrenean high mountain ecosystems, and constitutes a magnificent example of the action of the glaciers during the Quaternary period. Its lakes and mountains are home to the wood grouse, the black woodpecker, the bearded vulture, the chamois, and other animals. The park is covered with forests of fir, mountain pine and beech, while you can find gentians, ranunculus, lilies, orchids, and primroses, among other species, growing on the alpine meadows.
